Born in Norway in 1961 Jorunn Monrad graduated in sculpture at the Fine Arts Academy of Milan in 1987.
Using techniques developed in the middle ages she uses egg tempera and casein tempera to create brilliantly coloured and endlessly fascinating abstract paintings featuring hundreds of tiny biotic animals inspired by Nordic myths. Her sophisticated use of colour contrasts reveals or obscures messages in the paint.
