Iwan's work is in response to the land of West Wales, tilled and farmed by countless generations of his family in sustaining a living from the soil. Dafis in turn, explores this connection, by emphasising the land's abstract quality and emotional attraction, in his paintings.
In recent years Iwan has furthered his art education by travelling and visiting galleries both in this country and abroad. Inspired by the ‘Cezanne en Provence’ Exhibition in 2006 at Aix en Provence, he secured a Gregynog Travel Award in 2007, to enabled him to return to Provence to make a series of small studies and paintings. In the following year (2008) the Geoffrey Crawshay Travel Award award allowed Iwan to return for 3.5 weeks to further investigate, and paint this landscape.
